Samsung Galaxy S Does Graphics 3X Faster Than Other Phones?
We’re not sure if it will live up to it in real world standards, but the Samsung Galaxy S will supposedly process graphics at least three times faster than any phone currently announced or on the shelves. Kudos to blog Android and Me for noticing this detail and following up with the computations to verify it.
Announced at the CTIA show in Vegas earlier in the week, the handset is easily one of the future stars of the smartphone market. With a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a 5.0 megapixel camera module, WiFi, 3G and Android 2.1 at the helm, it’s bound to be one of Samsung’s higher-profile releases.
Oddly enough, among the things mentioned during the keynote which a lot of folks seem to have missed is that the Galaxy S’ ARM Cortex A8 core (codename Hummingbird) and PowerVR SGX540 GPU combo can process a whopping 90 million triangles per second. Contrast that to the Droid’s 7 million triangles per second, the Snapdragon platform’s 22 million and the iPhone 3GS’ 600 MHz Cortex-A8/PowerVR SGX535 GPU combo’s 28 million.
It’s odd that Samsung probably has the most graphically-powerful smartphone of the lot and are leaving it out from taking a more notable position in their press releases. We’re not sure why, but that’s certainly something to look forward to when the Samsung Galaxy S launches later in the year.
